Joy vs Obligation

ree

Daily activities can be chores (obligations) or may bring you fun and enjoyment.

How are you prioritizing your activities? Any rituals or methods that you utilize, or do you fight the fires burning most intensely.

A few of my observations are as follows:

1) There is a tendency to prioritize those things where we feel most obligated.

2) Your time and attention are commodities. There is only so much attention and concentration you have available during the day. Many of us are not using it wisely.

3) Understanding what brings enjoyment or satisfaction to the day needs more priority. It will give the mind a chance to restore energy and attentiveness.

4) I will repeat … Your time and attention are commodities. Do not just burn it out. Learn to build it up.

Try an exercise the next time coming up with a ‘to do’ list. Circle those that are obligations or chores. Place a star next to at least 2 or 3 items that would bring you some joy. Make sure the starred items get done.

Create energy. Incorporate some joy in your day.
