What is your ‘Someday’?
· Someday … my efforts will be recognized
· Someday … that promotion and big pay raise will come
· Someday … a long vacation will be in order
· Someday … retirement will be an option
· Someday … a passion will be pursued
· Someday … things will all work out
Are any of these relatable? Can you think of other ‘Somedays’ that you have, or hear from others?
Labeling a goal, an aspiration, or a desired state as a ‘Someday’ can help you get through the day. It gives a feeling there is something that will make everything worth it. All the work, all the effort, all the stress. It will all be OK, and ‘Someday’ the reward will be waiting.
Thinking ‘Someday’ might be what you need to energize your efforts, to help you grind it out … get you through the day. And that is great! An attitude of “whatever it takes” is to be applauded.
But what else is your ‘Someday’ telling you, and how might you accelerate your path the ‘Someday’?
· ‘Somedays’ may simply be your way of have a positive perspective or outlook. It may be your fuel and your energy. If your ‘Someday’ makes you smile, keep it coming!
· ‘Somedays’ may be procrastination, because of circumstances in your life. Do you feel like a victim of these circumstances and not in control to influence what you want for yourself? What bold moves can be made to make a move in the direction you want?
· ‘Somedays’ may be a sign that you are bored or getting stale in your current situation. Within the lyrics of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song that inspired this post, you will hear “the time went by … and I collected dust”. What can you do to get out of the rut, see things differently? What aspect of your job or your life can be enhanced? What move do you make toward change?
When you hear yourself thinking ‘Someday’ take a moment and sense how you are feeling about it? What insights can you gain from this feeling. Then take a step toward your ‘Someday’ … and make sure it comes!
Inspiration for this Post
The late 60’s and early 70’s rock group, Creedence Clearwater Revival (also known as CCR) recorded the song “Someday Never Comes”. The lyrics reference a father and a son and promises of how things will be … Someday. The photo accompanying this post is the “Mardi Gras’ album cover on which that track was released in 1972. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29xhuYxlgcI
